How's Your Cleanse Going?

Mine is trucking right along; and I feel fantastic! Here's a little update on how the detox is treating us at the Pinter house:

My energy level is more even, and I feel calmer all around.  I think this has to do with giving up sugar and my (admittedly crazy bad) chewing gum habit.

Dylan has had some pretty mean headaches and body aches, as well as the occasional craving.  On day three, he got into bed, rolled over, and recited the following:  I want bread and butter...cheese plate... cured meat...before falling fast asleep.

We have both been remembering our dreams since we started detoxing...mine seem to be particularly wacky.

I'm really loving the technology cleanse.  I find it so doable to give up gadgets an hour before bed and an hour after waking up.  My morning ritual used to be: wake up, roll over, scroll through Instagram, and eat breakfast while watching the news on low...as not to disturb a sleeping Dylan.  Since cleansing, Dylan and I wake up and eat breakfast together... without the news, sans computers, no iPhones, just us.  I love it.  I never want this part to end, and maybe it doesn't have to :)  In addition to giving me lovely mornings with my hubby, this simple technology detox has helped me feel more focused and ready to start my day.

We've both had moments of ravenous hunger on the cleanse, our bodies screaming out for something we weren't giving it.  This is the kind of hunger that only pasta can satisfy.  I made brown rice ziti (only ingredients are brown rice and water) with vegan pesto, and it was perfect!  Parmesan who?

Vegan Pesto
2 c basil leaves
1 Tbsp. pepitas
1 Tbsp. hemp seeds
1 garlic clove ...I boil mine cuz raw garlic hurts my belly :(
 pinch salt and pepper
1/2 c olive oil

Here's some more clean food we've been eating!

Steamed Kale with Golden Raisins, Baked Sweet Potatoes, Quinoa, and Pinto Beans.

Baked Falafel, Quinoa Tabouli, and Stuffed Grape Leaves with Tahini and Zhoug (spicy sauce of cilantro, parsley, chilis, and spices)...made by Dylan with his beloved Jerusalem cook book.

The Kelp Summer Noodles from Juice Press...holy deliciousness!

Black Rice and Butter Bean Stuffed Acorn Squash with Roasted Fennel and Asparagus!

Sorry, no breakfast pics for you... no gadgets in the morning :)
